Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of a WWII U.S. Army Issue "Daisy Mae" Blue Denim Fatigue Hat. Officially designated the "Hat, Work, Blue Denim," these were designed for effective sun protection for field work where camouflage was not necessary. The design was quite popular, and there are many variants still in production today.
It is believed this pattern of fatigue hat began production during WWI, however the earliest pattern date has not been established yet. Many were made according to the 1937 specification, but there are period photographs showing that they were made earlier.
This example is in very good condition, with some dirt stains and light wear. It may have been laundered, as there is some fabric deterioration on the other side of the seams. Also the original gauze printed label is now no longer legible. However the ink stamped size 7 5/8 inside the cap is definitely visible, and overall this is a very nice hat.
